The first Key in each of the seven dispensations is its guiding element, the Universal principle where Universal Truths are found:
Understanding the seven keys or guiding principles (elements) are the basis for the understanding of dispensations. The Biblical continuity and clarity of a dispensation reveals the symmetry in God's working throughout the Bible. The understanding of the symmetry reveals how the Biblical events are tied together, opening one's own heart and mind to God's awesome workings in redeeming humanity.
The universal principles are a major key element in dispensational understanding. This element reveals absolute truths, revealing the progressive history of humanity leading to the discovery that humanity has had in discovering and learning the make-up of the earth and universe that God had planned for them.
The universal truths play and have a very important place in dispensational understanding revealing progression in the history of humanity. Universal truths give assurance of a solid foundation providing comfort, knowing things are not going to change that are eternal, holy, righteous and just. They give assurance our world and universe will not fall apart, no matter what dispensation governs its existence. The quest of life is discovered in the search of universal truths that are found in creation, the universal truths are in keeping with the laws created by God, whether already revealed or still hidden in God to be revealed in a latter dispensation, Mark 13:31; II Timothy 2:15; Titus 1:3; Psalms 119:89,103.130,160; Psalms 12:6; 18:30; 33:4; 68:11; 105:7-9.
A dispensation is the historical economy in which humanities obedience is required to be an interaction with God and creation. The operation of the dispensations economy may change, but not the universal principles, they will always remain the same
a) God is eternal, demonstrating grace, mercy, love, and His infinite character and involvement throughout the dispensations, Romans 5:1-11; I John 3:1; 4:7-12; Galatians 5:22-23.
b) A human will always be a human, either male or female, Genesis 1:26-28; Matthew 19:4. Humanity is eternal, created in God's image. It is humanity's responsibility to trust God, Ecclesiastes 3:11.
c) The creation of animals will always be after its own kind, a dog will always be a dog, cow a cow, etc., Genesis 1:24-25; 2:9.
d) Gravitational force will always have its pull unless acted upon by a higher universal law, etc.. The earth is held together by God and His created divine formulas, Psalms 19; 3:5; Job 32-42; Isaiah 55:6; Genesis 1; 2.
Universal principles are not to be overlooked in the scriptures, connecting truths, where they are found in every dispensation is important. Studying and understanding how the universal truth is applied in the different historical periods and events, needs to be taken into account, and by doing so, the learner will not become confused when applying and obeying the scriptural trues correctly, according to the dispensation in which they live.
The Universal Truths never change, but just because they have not been all revealed until God so chose, does not make them invalid, they have always been universally eternal. When revealed they are included along with humanity's understanding, and included with those that came forward from eternity and previous dispensations. The new universal rule, truths or laws can be revealed at the beginning of a dispensation or as it is unfolding, and even though they are revealed latter does not make them less important.
Many of universal truths have a unique relationship to each dispensation that is in force, giving clarity to Biblical truth. Also, universal principles do not change God's covenants, but may direct how it is to be carried out at the time of the dispensation. Universal Truths complement the other six principle elements, making a dispensation recognizable, such as the stewardship of a dispensation, (Institution of Steward is a key principle within a dispensation.)
When a universal truth is discovered (God allowing it to be revealed) that truth is to be applied in life, and accepted as a fact, however, one needs to be sure they are being obedient as it is progressing. The universal rules are to be operated according to the way God planned the dispensation without changing or attempting to change the rules.
In the following examples, the universal truth animals never change, they are after their own kind. Some animals were created as scavengers to clean up the earth while others were used for food and sacrifices, Genesis 1:24, 25. .
Examples: God created animals and in the first dispensation, God did not distinguish between eating scavenger animals from eating other animals, in fact animals were not in man's diet Genesis 1:24, 25 - beginning in the second dispensation, the Dispensation of Conscience He reveals the differences between clean and unclean animals, this was prior to the Law of Moses, Genesis 7:2. In the Dispensation of Human Government which came later, He indicated for the first time man could eat meat. However, it was not to be eaten with blood, the blood was to be drained out at the time of butchering, (Again before the Law of Moses.) Genesis 9:3, 4. Following that, the Dispensation of Promise, and God gave the Mosaic Law, the Nation of Israel was only to eat certain animals, as the new Mosaic Law prescribed that was in accordance to the type, clean and unclean. Note, all scavenger animals were unclean, Leviticus 11, 20:25 and when the Dispensation of Grace began, He says one can eat all animals, giving thanks to God for the food, and not having to make a distinction between clean and unclean, Colossians 2:16, Romans 14:1-23, Acts 10:9-16, I Timothy 4:3-6).
There has been and will continue to be unveiled universal truths throughout the dispensations. When God created humanity, He proclaimed that humanity was to subdue the earth, discovering it, taking care of the animals, the environment, and universe as they lived. Humanity was to be the stewards, caretakers of the earth. Humanity was given the innate conviction of discovery and this leads to the sciences, biology and all the other disciplines that could be used for the task God ordained humanity to accomplish, Genesis 1:26-28; 2:15.
All seven of the Keys of the guiding principles will be in play for a dispensation. A dispensation does not change because a universal principle was revealed as the dispensation progressed. For a dispensation to change, the last three principle would have to occur, the failure with humanities sins, the transition, and the punitive judgment, together they bring an end to a dispensation, and then passes into the fullness of the next dispensation.
There is an inherent universal truth of importance that is above all others 'there is one and only one God', Isaiah 43:10-12, I Timothy 2:5 who is the one who has established the eternal government and the administration which goes with it, Isaiah 42:5, 8, 44:24. We have seen seven administrations, (dispensations) that are the seven administrations of Godís one eternal government from eternity past to eternity future revealed in the Bible.
God is working in the affairs of humanity to complete the eternal Kingdom of God. In His management, He is directing the eternal government by a series of dispensations in history that has an institution of stewards who are to provide the supervision for carrying out the dispensation in the world in history; these stewards are ordained as His representatives. There are laws, rules, regulations, commands, and controls, for guardianship of the world, and they are to provide protection and guidance of God's Word within the dispensation or administration. The end results is the redemption of believers and the offer of redemption for the ones who rejects His atoning provision. The redemptive Covenant is a universal Covenant that covers all of Godís dealings with humanity throughout all the administrations. These things are universal truths coming from God's working plan, Acts 17:24-28.
(God has one eternal plan that contains seven dispensations, (administrations) with stewards of His choosing, and humanity needs to make sure we do not deceive other in believing or think we are talking about a human government, a church, denomination or religious group, but accept God's institution that He has ordained and established for carrying out the economy. This truth is universal and recorded in Scripture, (Bible).
The universal truths are in keeping with God's character as He is, and how He relates to us, as one. The one God who, is moral in holiness, righteousness and just, as He acts in love, mercy, grace, with joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, meekness, temperance, and can be trusted as humanity place their faith in Him, Galatians 5:22,23.
The Universal truth principle relates to His creation (example Ė humanity will always be either a man or a woman and possessing the charter of a man or woman, each possessing an eternal person-hood given at creation by God, and accountable to trust and obey Him and His laws. All humanity fear death and know in their inner being 'Heart' they possess an eternal destiny of life either in heaven or the Lake of Fire, regardless of what they try to convince themselves to believe, Ecclesiastes 3:11, Hebrews 2:14-15.).
All of God's universal laws are holy, righteous and just, even though humanity cannot and have not been able to save themselves because, it is due to humanities depravity. Personal holiness can be only found in faith in Jesus Christ as revealed in the universal truth found historically in God's incarnation, Romans 7:12; 12:1, I Peter 1:15-16, Ephesians 1:4, Galatians 3, Philippians 2:1-11. God offers salvation to anyone who will receive His plan as a special gift from Him and regardless of anything a human can do or give Him, Romans 6:23, Titus 3:5, Ephesians 2:8-9, I John 5:9-14. Believers are responsible for witnessing, teaching, training, warning the lost and is an universal responsibility, given to the personal instruments for witnessing according to the particular dispensation that the believer lived, Psalms 27:1, 34:11, Ezekiel 3:17-21, II Peter 2:5, Deuteronomy 6:1-17, Titus 1:1-10, II Timothy 2:2, Proverbs 11:3, Matthew 28:19-29, II Corinthians 5:17-21. .
Universal Truths of God have always been true in God's nature. We can confidently count on the fact that, 'God does not lie and cannot sin', Hebrews 6:18. In His Holiness, and His nature, He will never mislead us into error, Titus 1:1-3, I Samuel 15:29, Hebrews 13:8. Error occurs when we are drawn away because of our own lust and desires; we do not seek and study the truth of God revealed in His Word, James 1:14. Knowing universal facts about practical living, keeps and directs us away from sin and failures, and therefore, we find hope and security for the future. Practical living in the dispensations have been where the prophets, priests, pastors, evangelists, and teaches have spent the majority of the discipline in directing humanity to the eternal universal, one God.
Universal principle of having God first in everything and being thankful is a very important spiritual truth which gives God satisfaction and blessings on a fallen world. It immediately opens the doors for His working in a person's own life and gives stability to a society. The number one commandment of God is to Love the Lord our God with our whole heart, soul and mind, Matthew 22:36-38, Deuteronomy 6:5!
God in His infinite wisdom has chosen to reveal universal truths to humanity in a progressive, historical setting. We see them revealed according to His dispensations, as they unfold in scripture and the covenants given within the dispensations. Along with that, will be truths He will reveal and make clear in the future as He has predestined for humanity to know.
One can see this progressive nature of a universal truth relating to the Redemptive Covenant. The incarnation of His Son, Galatians 4:4-6, at just the right time God sent forth His Son, made of a woman, made under the law, to redeem, and He has sent forth His Spirit. We can see progression in the dispensations revealing this universal truth about the Son of God recorded in Scripture and history.
Also, in salvation, a person is predetermined for living, Acts 17:26-27, followed by the call from God, justified and glorified, Romans 8:29-30. Those who have been saved He gives the Holy Spirit to indwell their body, Ephesians 1:13; 4:30; I Corinthians 6:19 and after a believer dies He will redeem that body they possessed here on earth, Ephesians 1:14, I Thessalonians 4:16-18; II Corinthians 5, and God glorifies it like His own, patterned after Jesus body for eternity, Philippians 3:21. These truths are universal, John 3:16. Also, when resurrected the relationship between male and female, will be like the angels who do not marry and they will never die, Luke 20:27-36.
Universal truths of faith, hope and love are forever characteristics in the workings of God and His divine nature. They are the fruits of the Spirit of God and are inclusive in faith, hope and love, Galatians 5:22-26, I Corinthians 13:1-13. We see them through every dispensation and find their relationship to salvation. When trusting faith is exercised, the correct relationship to God (the object), is found, Hebrews 11:6.
We find grace and mercy a universal truth in the character of God, Deuteronomy 4:31, Nehemiah 9:31, Isaiah 26:10, Jonah 2:7-9, John 1:16-17 and one needs to show grace and mercy in our dealings with others. We find the community of fellowship in the trinity and we are responsible to exercise a community within our family, church and the human race.
The Mosaic law and the universal moral laws contained within were revealed and added for obedience to the Dispensation of Promise. The moral laws written in the Mosaic Law had been revelation 2000+ years after creation, many years after the Dispensation of Promise had already started with Abraham, Galatians 3:19, Romans 2:12,14; 3:19-30; 4:13,14, 20. The universal moral laws were hidden in God's plan and revealed to Moses, giving to the people the laws for establishing the Kingdom Nation in written form, and for the world understanding of the sinfulness of humanity, (The ten commandments), Romans 5:13-14, 20-21.
The Bible reveals universal principles which never change, and are to be learned and studied from the Bible, II Timothy 3:16; Romans 15:4. The learning of the universal truths of God is a continuous responsibility to humanity leading to salvation and sanctification, John 12:48. They are to be witnessed to the world for moral behavior and a peaceable existence. The moral universal laws are a check against evil and a weapon against the evil one Satan, and our sin nature, Ephesians 6:10-20. Many of the positive universal truths in the Bible counter the wrongs, choices and evil, by revealing holiness, righteousness, and justice giving humanity a barometer for personal living, and unified living with others. Believers have the universal mandate to share and stand for the truths of God, Romans 10:9-13; II Corinthians 5:18-23.
The Book of Proverbs is a good example of many truths that are universal.
The universal truths of marriage and the family, unified by the chain of command with the leadership of a man and a supportive role of a woman, is a must for a healthy existence. God created the order, and the help of a man and a woman fulfilling their roles to each other brings the ability to experience God's working and future blessings on a society. Violations of the leadership order cause confusion and leads to all kinds of sin since it violates the universal interaction of God's creation. Instead of teaching our women to usurp the leadership role of men, a society need to teach women the power of their role found in the supportive role. Men need to be taught to accept their role of leadership, and how to lead in love. Blessed relationship will be seen when this universal principle is exercised, and children will grow up as responsible citizens, and having the advantage and ability to accept God in their personal lives. Children who have faith in their parents and have obedient parents are to love their children so they can consider God in their personal life and behavior in the society they live.
The hope that individuals have towards authorities who are responsible to exercise good and never evil towards that, which they are universally responsible. A steward of any institution whatever, position they hold are responsible to manifest Godly universal principles, Romans 13.
All that we own or use, our homes, car, and other material things belong to God, and they are given to us by God to exercise these principles as we live our lives. Our work, play, and other leisure times are to be exercised through Biblical universal truths. Humanity is created to reflect God, since humans are created in His image. Therefore, our responsibilities in life are to reflect Him. We will never be God, but a universal creation of His love, and subordinate, as sons and daughters, trusting and obedient to Him.
And at last, true science will not contradict God's universal truths for humanity. Ignoring God's eternal truths or changing them is spiritually wrong. Humanity behavior is being recorded, and they will be, personally accountable, for their morality, and will be judged for sin, and the misuse of God's holy universal standards. This judgment will not be based on humanities science, but God's Word. The Word of God is the definitive guide, which is to be used when true scientific adventures are undertaken, 'the end does not justify the means'. Therefore, evolution, abortion, homosexuality, atheism along with their false religious teachings will be righteously judged by God's Word.
All contradictions espoused by science that is contrary to the Word of God, shows that science has compromised the truths, and given humanity an excuse for the denial of God. God's moral principles in which science concocted, changing His truths, we will be accountable in the end when God's Word judges humanity and every knee will bow down to Him, John 12:48, Revelation 20:11-15, Isaiah 45:18,22,23, Romans 14:11.
Whenever humanity discovers God's creation, true scientific will be in keeping with His nature, and dispensational timing. His truths are not contradictory to morals, but give universal guidelines for their discovery, showing symmetry and order. There are eternal truths yet to be given to believers within eternity, in heaven; believers will be always learning new facts forever, and subduing God's appointments. Today we are to know and handle correctly His Word, as we live, and as we are discovering and learning universal truths through scientific disciplines being careful not to violate holiness in our scientific endeavors.
Dispensational studies should be a part of other Systematic Theology with the universal principles of God's Word. Dispensations are the guide in discovering truths, there would not be violations or alleged contradictions in understanding when discovering our universe. When a dispensational study is our guide, it would bring glory and honor to the righteous God, Romans 1:18-23, Hebrews 1:2; 11:3, II Corinthians 1:12; 7:1.
