Funeral Service of Andrea Smith
                                 January 9, 1992
                    High Point Church; Madison, Wisconsin

Andrea was "joyful in hope". Even cancer could not diminish that hope. Andrea's hope was reasonable because she knew the Savior Who said:
                 "Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also
                    in me. In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not
                    so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place
                    for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come
                    back and take you to be with me that you also may be where
                    I am."
                                                                   John 14:1-3
Because Andrea had this certain hope of heaven, she was never defeated by her disease. She reminds us of another person who recently died of  cancer who always carried this poem with him:

                       WHAT CANCER CANNOT DO
"There is a natural body and there is a spiritual body" (I Cor. 15:44)
             Cancer is so limited. . .
            It cannot cripple Love
            It cannot shatter Hope
            It cannot corrode Faith
            It cannot eat away Peace
            It cannot destroy Confidence
            It cannot kill Friendship
            It cannot shut out Memories
            It cannot silence Courage
            It cannot invade the Soul
            It cannot reduce Eternal Life
            It cannot lessen the Power of the Resurrection.
            Our greatest enemy is not disease, but despair.

There is only one cure for the hopelessness of the soul; Jesus said: "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die" (John 11:25,26). Andrea knew Christ as her Savior and Lord. You can too. Christ died on the cross to pay for our sins. The work is finished. And now God places the ball in your court. What will you do with Jesus...?

              For All Saints
For all the saints who from their labors rest,
Who Thee by faith before the world confessed,
Thy name, 0 Jesus, be forever blest: Alleluia!

Thou was their rock, their fortress, and Their might,
Thou was, their captain in the well fought fight;
Thou, in the dark less drear, their one true Light: Alleluia

0 may Thy soldiers, faithful, true, and bold,
Fight as the saints who nobly fought of old,
And win with them the victor's crown of gold: Alleluia!

0 blest communion, fellowship divine!
We feebly struggle, they in glory shine;
Yet all are one in Thee, for all are Thine: Alleluia!

But lo! there breaks a yet more glorious day:
The saints triumphant rise in bright array;
The King of glory passes on His way: Alleluia!

From earth’s wide bounds, from ocean's farthest cost,
Thru gates of pearl streams in the countless host,
Singing to Father, Son, and Holy Ghost; Alleluia!

Amazing Grace"
             "Thru many dangers, toils and snares, I have already come;
                Tis grace hath brought me safe thus far, and grace will lead me
I Home."

                   "Our lives are as fragile and short lived as this balloon:
                   But our lives are celebrations as is this balloon.
                   Celebrate with it! Release it, or pass it on to someone
                   who needs to know the love of Jesus."
